Six United States Citizens Stricken by German E. coli O104:H4

Four people who traveled to Hamburg in May became ill, including two women and a man who suffered kidney failure after returning to the United States. Those three people are still hospitalized, said Dr. Chris Braden an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said those three are still hospitalized. Two other Americans — both members of the U.S. military stationed in Germany — have fallen ill, he said.

He said CDC officials are sure they were sickened after eating contaminated food in Germany.
